My first build

Ok I guess I will start a thread for my first build. I have been putting this off until I get more parts in but I decided now is as good of a time to kick this off. My frame was made by Tigman and if you are looking for someone to build a frame just as you want and in a quick time check him out. Great, great job on the frame and answers any question you have about really anything after he has built your bike. I didn't want to go really tall on the frame so I went with 2 up 2 out with 38 degree rake and 3" stretch in the rear. I plan on running 60 spoke wheels 21 X 1.15 front and 18x5.5 rear.
This will be a slow build due to funds, got hurt twice at work so there will be limited funds to go for the build.

I have the 6" over frontend tubes sliders and I bought a set of triple tree's but found out after buying everything that the tree;'s are 39MM and everything else is 41Mm so I am set to buy a new set of 41mm trees the first of the month.
Another thing that is going to slow the build is that I needed tools to build, welders, torch all that stuff I had nothing but some hand tools and a grinder so I have been putting most of my fund into getting those tools.

I will put up some pictures in my next post as too where I am right now.

Pictures

Here are some pictures of the parts and stuff I have not,

Frame: Side view

Top view:

Front End parts:

Gas tank old Harley sporter that I am going to try to attemped to cut and lengthen if I am able to do it or I will buy one I like:

I have a 1973 cb750 motor and a 1980 cb 750 which I have a picture of but I have not decided which I will use I don't have a good shot of the 73 but on my frame picture you can see if in the back ground need to degrease and rebuild it. I think that is the one I will use not sure.
Well I will keep up as I go. If you notice I have primer on the frame, but living in the NW weather is not good so I thought I should prime it so I don't get the rust on it. I will just remove the primer when I need to weld.

Well that is it for now I will post more later,

James

James, this is awsome. I did my build the same way, few tools and low funds. I can't wait to watch it evolve.

Oh by the way is that Nikki Sixx in your avatar?

That isn't Gilby Clarke is it? If it is he was in GnR, Kill for Thrills, and Candy. He is also the guitar player for Super Nova Tommy's current project along with Jason Newsted from Metallica.

No it isn't him it is the guy from STP. I am going to see Super nova when it come to my neck of the woods next month. I hear the front man isn't that great I hope by the time they get here there show will be better.
My wife just told me it is Scott Wilend (spelling) that is who it is.

I have been a Crue fan since I was in 5th grade and try to see them when I can.

James, it's great to see another Honda chop in the works!
I've got a few under my belt myself, and they are some of my favorites!

The frame looks GREAT, and yeah man . . Dave does a KILLER job on his frames. He did my current one (the DeathTrap)

One thing though.

The Honda mounts are NOT 'universal'.

You'll have to use what ever engine the mounts where done for on your frame.

The SOHC engine (pre 1979) mounts up quite a bit differently than the DOHC motor (1979/1980 and up).

I had Dave do my frame, and set it up for my 1980 DOHC CB750.
Unfortunately, I think he used mostly a bare block when he did it all.

When I tried to shoe-horn the engine in, the side covers hit the mounts, so the engine would not line up, and the oil filter up front smashed dead into the front frame hoop.

That DOHC engine is a LOT wider than it looks when it's all together, stuff sits lower when assembled, and in the end, even with it sitting in the bike . . I was hard pressed to figure out my controlls.

It was like trying to wrap my legs around a small block chevy!

Hopefully, this won't bum ya out.
And hopefully, the mounts fit the better engine of the 2 you have.

The DOHC motors are nice, but the SOHC motors have a TON of aftermarket support, where the docs don't.

Again, hope this helps!

It's hard to say . .

That looks EXACTLY how my DOHC mounts looked on my frame!
4 lower mounts, and a 4(ish) inch wide T-bar in the back.

*shrug*

Yeah it will be the 73 motor I will keep the other motor for my next build. I know the owner and the 80 motor was rebuilt about 800 miles ago. After I get my bike all mocked up I will send the motor to a Honda guy in my town that I hear does great work to go threw it all. What is the best finish for the motor? Look like crap now so if I can get it to polish up I can use motor paint without any problem can't I? I don't have much practice with air cooled I grew up building circle track cars so that I know what to do but with this my first bike I am unsure I know I just don't want that motor looking like shit in my bike LOL. I have been jumping around looking for different parts and shit I think I just need to get my front end on so I can get the motor and rear wheel lined up so I need to setup a plan on how I need things to layout and just worry about that instead of looking for seat shocks and others like that.

so for now I am buying my correct triple tree's on the first of the month and get the bearing, cups, and fork stops then next I plan on getting all the parts I will need to get the forks put together and on the bike.

I built a Web site for Blue Mountain choppers for wheels and stuff but since I finished his site I have not been able to find him. I think I need to get him on a milk carton to find him. but I have found the wheel I am going to buy from one of the Chopper Web members but with my budget that will have to wait.

well it is 1am here and it is time to hit the bed, everyone have a good night.
