Fucking Import Copies

Unbleievable.

Fucking Unbelivable.

I'm in Cincy, walking through the V-Twin show when I notice something, well, familiar in Ted's V-Twin Booth.

It's an aluminum forging, that looks amazingly like my Hard-Ass seat.

No, scratch that...It is and EXACT FUCKING COPY OF IT. Made in China. Page 825 of the '06 V-Twin catalog.

I hope no one wonders why jobs are going overseas.

I'm livid. There are so many cool things that you can make, why does someone have to copy other poeple's work?

Joe

The sad part of this is that Ted's, knowing damn well what they are selling is a copy of your product, is still willing to import that copy and sell it. Because they know that if they don't......some other lowlife will import it and sell it. Just goes to show the integrity level of todays blood thirsty market to grab the almighty dollar. No matter whom it truely hurts, which in the long run is Joe.

Not in the long run, in the short run....and THATS FUCKED. You just cant compete with china's labor and material prices especially when your making these things the hard way like joe does. Dunno if anyone saw the articles on what it took to polish them, or the oiltanks they are doing, but thats the hard, tedious, thankless part of making custom parts.

I really hope you guys can put out a lawsuit or something man, thats fucked

Heres a Ted story for you.

I had to order a few things from Ted once for a customer doing a restoration on an older slab side shovel. (could'nt get the dinky stuff anywhere else) so the whole order is around 75 beans, It's light weight so I wasn't worried about shipping. Untill the box arrived. They put FIVE fucking catalogs in the box to give it some heft along with a 95 bean shipping charge.

OH brother did they hear about that one.

Dug

I did the CAD work for that seat and I know how much work Joe has put into his products, this is just not right. I think Ted's ought to be sued for this, I have all the original CAD files to prove that it was designed for CSC and NOT for TED. Don't know much about US laws but we can definitely prove that it is not TED's design.

I'm thinking either a patent or copyright infringment. I don't think you filed a patent on that seat, but I think that is copyrightable, you do use it in your advertisement, that is the way I recognize your business with that fantastic seat.

You have to realize those guys over there make two to three dollars a day, they are scrupulous with stolen designs (in fact they are scrupulous period, and I dare anyone to debate that with me). This is just the tip of the iceberg, you will see more and more cheap Chinese copies, on every product under the sun..

When I was in china in the 80's those bastards had copied software, motorcycles, computer parts, you name it- I saw all kinds of knockoff products over there..

Joe and Mark,

I would be willing to bet a months pay that Ted is behind the rip off, the Chinese just make the part. He has recently been sued over that very thing.

No more V-twin for me either.

Yeah, I'm with Slabside. The Chinese are great at remanufacturing existing products for a fraction of the cost, but they're usually not the brains behind it. They do it as ordered by someone else, which in this case has to be Ted's.

Joe, I'm not sure if a lawsuit is going to work, but I'd definitely have legal look into this and see if there are any ways to make him stop selling.

This is just fucking outrageous. Steeling someone elses design and hard work, to make a buck. Seems to be happening more and more. Two local companies(machine shops) have pretty much closed there doors and layed people off because they can now get shit from china. Wonder if theses people that send work over seas have any sense of pride in american made goods, and good honest people that bust their balls to feed there family.
